Food Resource Information: Northwest Harvest-Cherry Street Food Bank is a food pantry. Proof of address, income or need is never required. Clients are asked only for: • last name • total number of people in the family • number of family members who are infants, children, adults or seniors

Food pantry service hours: Monday: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Full-Service: choice of grocery line or sack lunch • Tuesdays CLOSED • Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Full-Service: choice of grocery line or sack lunch • Thursday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Baby Day: For children 5 and under and their families • Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Grocery line and pre-made sandwiches • Saturday and Sunday: CLOSED.

First-Time Clients

To register, please bring a photo I.D. and a current proof of address (a piece of mail that you've received within the past 30 days) for yourself and others living in your household (school or medical records for children living with you). We update our files at the beginning of each year.

Guidelines

1. You may receive groceries only once per week.

2. Please respect our neighbors--don't litter, park in their parking spaces, or loiter on their property.

BFB Closure Information

If the Seattle School District cancels school, then the Ballard Food Bank will also be closed for service. Please see the Seattle Public Schools website for current closures.

To-go Food Bag

For persons without access to a kitchen and in need of pre-prepared foods. Tuesday through 
Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

TO QUALIFY:

  • To-Go Food Bags are for unhoused individuals living outdoors or in a vehicle without cooking facilities.


WHAT TO EXPECT:

  1. Upon arrival to the food bank, ask a staff or volunteer for a To-Go Food Bag.
  2. Please wait patiently outside for your bag.
  3. The contents of the bag are subject to availability and may vary from day-to-day.
  4. You may receive one (1) To-Go Food Bag per day.
  5. Persons receiving a To-Go Food Bag cannot select their own food items from shelving inside the food bank.

 

On-site Food Distribution Days

For people wishing to shop and select their own foods. 
Wednesdays & Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

TO QUALIFY:

  1. No appointment necessary — just show up! 
  2. RVFB does not have any ZIP code restrictions — all are welcome.
  3. Guests may receive food one day each week.  So choose Wednesday OR Saturday, please.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  1. Street parking is limited. The food bank is accessible by bus routes 7, 9 & 50, and is located within a 15 minute walk of the Columbia City light rail station.
  2. Upon arrival, see the line host to receive a waiting number outside. Numbers are handed out between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. When your number is called, you may enter the food bank and check in with the front desk.  
  3. Our waiting area is outside, with limited shelter. Dress well, and prepare to wait outside until your number is called.
  4.  Wait times vary between 15 minutes to 2 hours.

WHAT TO BRING:

  1. Identification is helpful but not required.
  2. Your own bag to carry your groceries in.
  3. If you have a disability, please inform the line host.

Seniors (55 & over)
Tuesdays:  9:00 a.m. – 11:00 am

General Public
Wednesdays:  4:00 p.m. – 7:00 pm
Thursday:  10:00 a.m. – 1:00 pm

 

They ask families to provide a photo identification and proof of address such as a recent piece of mail with a West Seattle zip code (phone or utility bill) on their first visit.

Each client is given a number based on the number of people in their family.  We have five different stations where clients are able to choose a certain amount of items from each station, depending on their number.   Stations include:

  • Protein
  • Dairy
  • Produce
  • Grains
  • Pastry

We offer diapers, formula, baby food and toddler bags for families with young children during our regular distribution hours.  A  Birth Certificate for each child must be shown on the first visit to receive any baby items
